Rescuing Gorilla Fazili: A Collaborative Effort

Last week, Virunga’s dedicated community trackers discovered a young gorilla, Fazili, from the Bageni family caught in a poacher’s snare. Though these traps are intended for other wildlife, gorillas sometimes fall victim.

Thanks to a rapid response from Virunga’s monitoring team and veterinarians from Gorilla Doctors, Fazili received urgent medical care, including the removal of the snare and treatment for injuries. While two fingers had to be amputated due to severe damage, Fazili successfully rejoined the troop.
