The Green Match Fund 2023

Virunga National Park is participating in The Big Give’s 2023 Green Match Fund appeal. From the 20th to the 27th of April, donors will have the opportunity to double their donations, thanks to match funds provided by the Big Give. Donations must be made through the platform to qualify.

The appeal aims to raise funds to help Virunga’s community scouts safeguard its mountain gorilla population. Conservation efforts have been severely impacted by renewed conflict in the southern sector of the Park. The Mikeno sector remains inaccessible to Virunga’s Rangers, leaving one-third of the world’s population at risk from threats such as snare traps, deforestation, and human-wildlife conflict.

To continue our essential conservation activities, Virunga has trained 50 community members as trackers who are stationed in nearby communities. Their work to monitor and safeguard Congo’s mountain gorillas, offers an important layer of protection for this vulnerable population.
