New gorilla birth in the Bageni family

Virunga National Park is happy to announce that Rangers have discovered a new baby gorilla in the Bageni family. Furahini, from the Wilungula family, gave birth to a baby male, her second child with the silverback Bageni.

Bageni became a silverback in 2010 and remained with his father Kabirizi until 2013. Several confrontations between the pair resulted in Bageni emigrating with 20 individuals to form his own troop. The Bageni family now has 47 individuals, there are 20 males including three silverbacks and one blackback. In 2021, the family registered six births.
