Virunga National Park is saddened to announce the deaths of Rangers Sekibibi Munyekuri Jean-Luc and Janvier Sebutama Théophile following a road accident in Katanda on a service mission on the 28th July.

Sekibibi Munyekuri Jean-Luc, age 31, had been working at the Park since 2017. He leaves behind two children. Janvier Sebutama Théophile, aged 25, joined the Park as a Ranger in January 2022.

Virunga National Park offers its deepest sympathies to the family, friends, and colleagues of our departed Rangers. They are in our prayers and thoughts at this time. Their passing emphasizes once more how much we owe the ICCN Rangers, who risk their lives daily to safeguard the Park and foster peace in North Kivu.
