Tragic Death of Two Rangers in Aircraft Crash in Virunga National Park

Virunga National Park is deeply saddened to announce the tragic passing of two Rangers following the crash of a Bat Hawk reconnaissance aircraft near Ishango on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 23.

The victims of this incident are Mr. Claude Nguo, the pilot of the aircraft, and Mr. Daniel Kakule. The incident occurred while they were supporting ICCN-led security operations within the Park.

The relevant authorities, including the Civil Aviation Authority, were immediately notified. An investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances of the incident.

Virunga National Park and the ICCN extend their heartfelt condolences to the families, loved ones, and colleagues of the deceased, reaffirming their commitment to the safety of their personnel and to the ongoing mission of protecting Virunga National Park’s biodiversity.
