This year marks 100 years of Virunga National Park — a century of protecting Africa’s great apes. By adopting a gorilla, you help our Rangers, community trackers, and gorilla vetenarians safeguard Virunga’s mountain and eastern lowland gorillas through the year ahead.
Your gift supports daily patrols, medical care, and vital conservation work that keeps more than a third of the world’s mountain gorillas safe in their natural home and safeguards our vulnerable population of eastern lowland gorillas — only 11 remain in the Park. Together, we’re continuing a legacy of protection that began a century ago — and shaping the next 100 years.

Meet the Park’s Community Trackers
"Monitoring gorillas during an armed conflict period is not always easy, but we find ways and do our best to safeguard them despite the situation. With peace and the support of donors and partners, we can ensure that the gorillas are well protected."
"My name is Fidèle, I have been working with Virunga National Park for nine years and currently work as a community tracker in the Bikenge area. When I was younger, I often saw wild animals I had learned about in school venturing out of the Park, which inspired me to pursue this path. I've always desired to protect the Park and everything within it."
"The love of our Park and protecting the fauna and flora led me to become a tracker. Gorillas are exposed to many dangers if they are not properly cared for. Despite the security situation in Eastern Congo, I do my best to monitor them."
