Donations are crucial not only for safeguarding biodiversity, but helping Virunga respond to the consequences of conflict, natural disasters and outbreaks of disease. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a long term economic impact on eco-tourism — a vital source of income for Virunga’s conservation efforts. On top of this, 2021 witnessed the death of 6 Rangers following a militia ambush near Kabuendo and the eruption of Mt. Nyiragongo, causing widespread destruction and power cuts in communities surrounding the Park. Every donation helps us tackle these challenges as well as those that still lie ahead.
