I wanted to take a moment to offer my sincere thanks to you for your generosity in supporting Virunga’s recent fundraising campaign to raise $1 million for the park’s rangers and their families.
Two months ago, when I announced that I was running the London Marathon, I knew we had a challenge ahead – both in terms of my own fitness, and in setting an ambitious fundraising goal to reach in just a few weeks.
I am thrilled to confirm that we have reached our goal. More than 3400 donors from around the world who believed in our work came together to help build an essential and lasting safety net for the families of Virunga’s fallen rangers. Including the matching funding from Paul Leander-Engström, though his organisation, The World We Want Foundation, we were able to raise a grand total of just over $1,080,000 – an amazing achievement.
During my ten years working for Virunga, the park has seen many ups and downs. Knowing that we will be able to put in place an endowment fund which will last for decades to come, through good times and bad, is truly heartening.
On behalf of everyone from Virunga National Park, thank you – we could not have done this without you.
