Elephant Killing

Slaughtered_Elephant_2I received a very disturbing call this morning from Rodrigue, the Sector warden for the Rwindi area.  An elephant was killed during the night by poachers on the main road to Goma. He immediately went in with a section of rangers and launched an investigation. The elephant was shot eight time, and its head removed.  The poachers left with the Ivory.  It’s too early to give any information on the scene of the crime but unfortunately, for various reasons, we can’t even use the hounds to pursue the poachers.  It’s deeply disturbing and very worrying for the future of our small elephant populations.  We’ve taken measures to secure the area and will be stepping up a number of measures in that area and elsewhere.

The poachers should be punished! Lifetime imprisonment! We share the same universe! What right do they have to kill an innocent animal? Please make a petition for this!!!

Mais que veulent-ils à ces pauvres éléphants???? C’est vraiment lâche de faire cela. J’espère que vous trouverez ceux qui ont fait cela et qu’ils paient chaire leur crime.

This is just so heart breaking. How can people do this to an animal, especially ones that are struggling go survive on this planet! Makes me cry… The Virunga National park is a special place and the people that protect it are also. I just hope things can get better…

this kind of brutality comes from a lack of proper jobs, money, education, medicine to feed families, so we have people acting like savages to make enough money to live. find ways to keep economies sustainable and people won’t resort to the slaughter of these innocent, glorious creatures. it’s too painful to contemplate. if the poachers are ever caught, my first impulse would be to shoot them right between the eyes.

I am literally appalled at the violence and brutality of the killing of these fine animals. Soon there will be no more left but as some people rudely think at least they will have the tusks and head. How very veery sad and brutal of these people who show no remorse for the brutality and slaughter of thes magnificent animals. Very very painful to see but eye opening as to what horrendous acts that are happening to our beautiful wildlife.

The way we treat other species, ultimately results in how we treat our own species. Or are capable of.

this killing makes me very sad indeed.

Elephants are such beautiful creatures and should be left alive!
It is sick to kill elephants, especially to steal their horns. Their ivory belongs to them, not to greedy murderers.
